Hebrews 12: The race set before us

Read Hebrews 12:1-29 before you meet.

In a few lines

Hebrews 12 names Jesus twice: the one to run looking to, "the author and perfecter of faith" (12:2), and the one you have come to, "Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant" (12:24). Between them come "the exhortation which reasons with you as with children" (12:5) and the call, "Follow after peace with all men" (12:14).

The verse to carry

“Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Hebrews 12:1-2

  2. 2. "make straight paths for your feet" (12:13). What is one small step that would make your path straighter this week?

  3. 3. "Follow after peace with all men" (12:14). What does following after peace look like in an ordinary week?
