Genesis 46: I will go down with you
Read Genesis 46:1-34 before you meet.
In a few lines
At Beersheba God told Jacob, "Don’t be afraid to go down into Egypt... I will go down with you," and promised to make him a great nation and bring him up again. All the souls of the house of Jacob in Egypt numbered seventy. Joseph fell on his father's neck, and Jacob said, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face."
The verse to carry
“He said, “I am God, the God of your father. Don’t be afraid to go down into Egypt, for there I will make of you a great nation. I will go down with you into Egypt. I will also surely bring you up again. Joseph’s hand will close your eyes.””
Genesis 46:3-4
To talk about
1. God didn't tell Jacob Egypt would be easy; he said, "I will go down with you." Why might that be enough?
2. Most of the seventy names are never mentioned again in Genesis. Why do you think the Bible records them?
3. Jacob said, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face." What reunion or answered prayer has meant that much to you?
