Genesis 29: This time I will praise
Read Genesis 29:1-35 before you meet.
In a few lines
Jacob served seven years for Rachel and was given Leah instead: the man who had come to his father as the firstborn was told "It is not done so… to give the younger before the firstborn." The LORD saw that Leah was hated and gave her four sons, and with the fourth she said, "This time I will praise the LORD." That son, Judah, is the one from whom Jesus comes.
The verse to carry
“She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.”
Genesis 29:35
To talk about
1. Jacob, who deceived his father, was deceived by Laban. What do you make of how this chapter echoes chapter 27?
2. "The LORD saw that Leah was hated." How does it help to know that God sees people others overlook?
3. Leah's hope for her husband's love didn't come true, and with Judah she said, "This time I will praise the LORD." What would it look like to praise God before your situation changes?
