Genesis 26: Room for us

Read Genesis 26:1-35 before you meet.

In a few lines

The LORD gave Isaac the promise he had sworn to Abraham, and the Bible's first uses of the words for commandments, statutes and laws describe how Abraham obeyed. Isaac repeated his father's "She is my sister", was blessed a hundredfold, and kept digging wells until the LORD made room at Rehoboth. His neighbors said, "We saw plainly that the LORD was with you."

The verse to carry

“The LORD appeared to him the same night, and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your offspring for my servant Abraham’s sake.””

Genesis 26:24

To talk about

  1. 1. Isaac repeated his father's fear-driven words in the same town. What patterns have you inherited, good or bad?

  2. 2. Isaac kept digging new wells instead of fighting over the old ones. When is it right to move on rather than contend?

  3. 3. Abimelech said, "We saw plainly that the LORD was with you." What would people around you say they see?
