Genesis 25: Two nations in the womb
Read Genesis 25:1-34 before you meet.
In a few lines
Abraham died full of years, and Isaac and Ishmael buried him together; Ishmael's twelve princes matched God's promise about him. Isaac entreated the LORD for barren Rebekah, and twenty years after their marriage she bore twins; the LORD said the elder would serve the younger. Jacob was born holding Esau's heel, the word first used in 3:15, and Esau sold his birthright for a meal.
The verse to carry
“The LORD said to her, “Two nations are in your womb. Two peoples will be separated from your body. The one people will be stronger than the other people. The elder will serve the younger.””
Genesis 25:23
To talk about
1. Isaac and Rebekah waited twenty years for children, and Isaac entreated the LORD for her. What helps you keep praying when the answer is slow?
2. "Isaac loved Esau… Rebekah loved Jacob." Where have you seen favoritism in a family do damage?
3. Esau said, "I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?" What makes the present moment feel more urgent than what lasts?
