Genesis 13: Lift up your eyes

Read Genesis 13:1-18 before you meet.

In a few lines

Abram, whose offspring were promised the land, lets Lot choose first. Lot lifts up his eyes and moves toward Sodom; then God tells Abram to lift up his eyes, promises all he can see to him and his offspring forever, and promises offspring as countless as the dust.

The verse to carry

“Abram said to Lot, “Please, let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen; for we are relatives.”

Genesis 13:8

To talk about

  1. 1. Abram let Lot choose first to keep the peace. What makes it hard to give up your rights for the sake of peace?

  2. 2. Lot chose what looked best, and it led him toward Sodom. How do you make choices when something looks good but may lead toward trouble?

  3. 3. God told Abram to lift up his eyes and look in every direction. Where do you need God to lift your eyes right now?
