Galatians 1: Not from men

Read Galatians 1:1-24 before you meet.

In a few lines

Galatians 1 sends grace and peace from our Lord Jesus Christ, "who gave himself for our sins" (1:4), and in its first twelve verses comes back seven times to the one Greek word behind men and man: the letter's I is an apostle "not from men, nor through man" (1:1), and the Good News "is not according to man" (1:11).

The verse to carry

“Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us out of this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father—”

Galatians 1:3-4

To talk about

  1. 1. "who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us out of this present evil age" (1:4). What does it mean to you that he gave himself?

  2. 2. "For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God?" (1:10). Where do you feel the pull to please people more than God?

  3. 3. "So they glorified God in me." (1:24). What has God done in someone you know that made you glorify him?
