Ezra 1: Stirred to go up
Read Ezra 1:1-11 before you meet.
In a few lines
Ezra 1 says the LORD stirred two spirits: Cyrus's, to make the proclamation (1:1), and the people's, "all whose spirit God had stirred to go up" (1:5). And the vessels Nebuchadnezzar had put in the house of his gods were counted out and brought up "from Babylon to Jerusalem" (1:11).
The verse to carry
“Then the heads of fathers’ households of Judah and Benjamin, the priests and the Levites, all whose spirit God had stirred to go up, rose up to build the LORD’s house which is in Jerusalem.”
Ezra 1:5
To talk about
1. Those who rose up to build were "all whose spirit God had stirred to go up" (1:5). Is there something you sense God stirring you to begin, and what would it take to rise up and start?
2. "All those who were around them strengthened their hands" (1:6). Who in your life is stepping out to do something for God right now, and how could you strengthen their hands this week?
3. The vessels carried off to Babylon were counted out and brought back to Jerusalem (1:7-11). When has God given back to you something you thought was lost for good, and what did you learn about him from it?
