Exodus 19: On eagles' wings

Read Exodus 19:1-25 before you meet.

In a few lines

Before God gave Israel a single command at Sinai, he reminded them he had carried them "on eagles’ wings" to himself (19:4). He called them his "own possession" and "a holy nation" (19:5-6), words Peter uses of those who come to Jesus (1 Peter 2:9). And Hebrews says you have not come to this burning mountain, but "to Jesus" (Hebrews 12:24).

The verse to carry

“‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to myself.”

Exodus 19:4

To talk about

  1. 1. At the mountain, God first reminded Israel of what he had already done: "I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to myself" (19:4). What has God already done in your life that you want to remember this week?

  2. 2. Peter tells followers of Jesus, "you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation" (1 Peter 2:9). What would it look like for you to live as someone set apart for God where you live and work?

  3. 3. The people trembled at the foot of the mountain, and Hebrews says you have come instead "to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant" (Hebrews 12:24). How does that change the way you come to God?
