Exodus 15: The song at the sea

Read Exodus 15 before you meet.

In a few lines

The song at the sea never mentions Moses' hand, only the LORD's. Its line "The LORD is my strength and song. He has become my salvation" (15:2) is sung again in Psalm 118:14, and in Revelation the victors sing "the song of Moses" with "the song of the Lamb" (Revelation 15:3). Three days later the singers murmured, and the LORD named himself "the LORD who heals you" (15:26).

The verse to carry

“The LORD is my strength and song. He has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.”

Exodus 15:2

To talk about

  1. 1. Israel sang at the sea (15:1) and murmured three days later when the water was bitter (15:22-24). What makes it easy for you to go from praise to complaint so quickly?

  2. 2. When the people murmured against Moses, he "cried to the LORD" (15:24-25). When complaints come at you, what do you usually do with them, and what would crying to the LORD look like?

  3. 3. "The LORD is my strength and song. He has become my salvation" (15:2). If you wrote one line about something the LORD has done for you, what would it say?
