Esther 2: Hadassah, that is, Esther
Read Esther 2:1-23 before you meet.
In a few lines
Esther 2 says twice that Esther didn't make known "her people" and "her relatives" (2:10, 2:20), the second time in the other order, and those are the two words she finally names before the king: "my people" and "my relatives" (8:6).
The verse to carry
“He brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter; for she had neither father nor mother. The maiden was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordecai took her for his own daughter.”
Esther 2:7
To talk about
1. Mordecai took in his uncle's daughter when she had neither father nor mother (2:7). Who has made room for you in their family or their life, and who might you make room for?
2. Esther kept her people and her relatives unknown for a time (2:10, 2:20), and later named them before the king (8:6). What makes it easy or hard for you to let others know who your people are?
3. Mordecai's report was written in a book, and nothing was done for him yet (2:23, 6:3). How do you keep doing good when no one seems to notice?
