Ecclesiastes 11: Cast your bread on the waters
Read Ecclesiastes 11:1-10 before you meet.
In a few lines
Four times in 11:2-6 the Preacher says "you don’t know", and still he says, "In the morning sow your seed" (11:6). Then he tells the young man what to know: "know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment" (11:9).
The verse to carry
“As you don’t know what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child; even so you don’t know the work of God who does all.”
Ecclesiastes 11:5
To talk about
1. Four times in 11:2-6 the Preacher says "you don’t know", and still he says, "In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening don’t withhold your hand" (11:6). What helps you keep going with something good when you can't see how it will turn out?
2. "Truly the light is sweet, and it is a pleasant thing for the eyes to see the sun" (11:7). What ordinary thing has been sweet to you this week?
3. "Rejoice, young man, in your youth … but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment" (11:9). How do you hear the two halves of that verse together?
