Deuteronomy 7: Because the LORD loves you
Read Deuteronomy 7:1-26 before you meet.
In a few lines
The LORD didn't choose Israel for being many; they were "the fewest of all peoples" (7:7); in Hebrew, "fewest" is the word of "little by little" (7:22). He chose them "because the LORD loves you" and to keep his oath (7:8), and he keeps loving kindness "to a thousand generations" (7:9).
The verse to carry
“Know therefore that the LORD your God himself is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness to a thousand generations with those who love him and keep his commandments,”
Deuteronomy 7:9
To talk about
1. The LORD didn't choose Israel for their size, and Moses later says not for their righteousness either (7:7-8; 9:5), "but because the LORD loves you" (7:8). Where do you still find yourself trying to earn a love you've already been given?
2. "These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?" (7:17). What in your life feels "more than I" right now, and what would it look like to "remember well" (7:18) what God has already done?
3. The LORD said he would drive out the nations "little by little", and gave a reason: "lest the animals of the field increase on you" (7:22). Where are you waiting on something that is coming slower than you'd like?
