Deuteronomy 25: That his name not be blotted out
Read Deuteronomy 25:1-19 before you meet.
In a few lines
One verb runs through Deuteronomy 25: a dead brother's name must not be "blotted out of Israel" (25:6), and Amalek's memory is to be blotted out (25:19). And when Sadducees used the brother's duty to argue against the resurrection, Jesus answered, "in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage" (Matthew 22:30).
The verse to carry
“You shall have a perfect and just weight. You shall have a perfect and just measure, that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God gives you.”
Deuteronomy 25:15
To talk about
1. Even the man who was judged guilty was still "your brother", and the law guarded him from being "degraded in your sight" (25:3). How do you treat someone whose wrong has already been dealt with?
2. "One heavy and one light" (25:13). Where are you tempted to use one measure for yourself and another for other people?
3. Amalek struck "all who were feeble behind you, when you were faint and weary" (25:18). What would it look like for your group to watch out for whoever is at the back?
