Deuteronomy 18: A prophet like me
Read Deuteronomy 18:1-22 before you meet.
In a few lines
The prophet like Moses was the LORD's answer to the people's own request at Horeb, "Let me not hear again the LORD my God’s voice", and the LORD said, "They have well said" (18:16-17). The nations listen to diviners; Israel was to "listen to him" (18:14-15). Peter quotes this promise (Acts 3:22) and says God raised up "his servant Jesus" (Acts 3:26).
The verse to carry
“The LORD your God will raise up to you a prophet from among you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him.”
Deuteronomy 18:15
To talk about
1. At Horeb the people asked not to hear the LORD's voice directly, and the LORD said, "They have well said" (18:16-17). When has God's word reached you best through another person?
2. The nations listened to diviners; Israel was to "listen to him" (18:14-15). Whose voices do you find yourself listening to most in an ordinary week, and where do they lead you?
3. The chapter ends, "You shall not be afraid of him" (18:22). What kinds of confident voices are you tempted to fear, and what would it look like to test them instead?
