Deuteronomy 10: What does the LORD require of you
Read Deuteronomy 10:1-22 before you meet.
In a few lines
The God who owns "heaven, the heaven of heavens" (10:14) is the God who "loves the foreigner in giving him food and clothing" (10:18). Israel's love for the foreigner starts with his: "Therefore love the foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt" (10:19).
The verse to carry
“Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,”
Deuteronomy 10:12
To talk about
1. "What does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul" (10:12), "for your good" (10:13). Which of these comes hardest for you right now, and why?
2. "Therefore love the foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt" (10:19). Israel's reason was its own past. What has God brought you through that makes you better able to care for someone who is on the outside?
3. "Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiff-necked" (10:16). Where do you notice a stiff neck in yourself: something God has said that you keep turning away from?
