Deuteronomy 1: As a man carries his son

Read Deuteronomy 1:1-46 before you meet.

In a few lines

Moses, who said "I am not able to bear you myself alone" (1:9), tells Israel who did carry them: "the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son" (1:31), and went before them "to seek out a place for you to pitch your tents" (1:33). The people had asked for men to go before them (1:22). "Yet in this thing you didn’t believe" (1:32).

The verse to carry

“and in the wilderness where you have seen how that the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went, until you came to this place.”

Deuteronomy 1:31

To talk about

  1. 1. "I am not able to bear you myself alone" (1:9). What are you carrying on your own right now that someone else could help you bear?

  2. 2. "The LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went" (1:31). Looking back, where can you see now that you were carried, even if you didn't see it then?

  3. 3. "You shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s" (1:17). Where does fear of what someone will think make it hard for you to do what is right?
