Acts 6: Full of faith and of the Holy Spirit

Read Acts 6:1-15 before you meet.

In a few lines

In Greek, the "daily service" in which the widows were neglected (6:1) and the twelve's "ministry of the word" (6:4) are one noun, diakonia. And the two things the twelve asked for in the seven, "full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom" (6:3), come back in what those who disputed with Stephen "weren’t able to withstand": "the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke" (6:10).

The verse to carry

“But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word.”

Acts 6:4

To talk about

  1. 1. The complaint was that some widows "were neglected in the daily service" (6:1). Who might be overlooked where you are, and what could you do about it this week?

  2. 2. The twelve asked for "seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom" (6:3). Think of someone you know like that. What do you notice about them?

  3. 3. The twelve said, "we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word" (6:4). What helps you keep steady in prayer and in the word, and what gets in the way?
