2 Samuel 8: Wherever he went
Read 2 Samuel 8:1-18 before you meet.
In a few lines
The LORD told David, "I have been with you wherever you went" and "I will make you a great name" (7:9). This chapter uses the same Hebrew words: "The LORD gave victory to David wherever he went" (8:6, 8:14), and "David earned a reputation" (8:13) is, in Hebrew, David made a name.
The verse to carry
“David reigned over all Israel; and David executed justice and righteousness for all his people.”
2 Samuel 8:15
To talk about
1. David dedicated to the LORD the silver and gold he brought back (8:11). What good thing that came to you this year could you give back to God, and what would that look like?
2. David "executed justice and righteousness for all his people" (8:15). Where do other people depend on you to be fair, and who among them is easiest to overlook?
3. The chapter lists what David did, then says twice, "The LORD gave victory to David wherever he went" (8:6, 8:14). Think of something that went well for you recently. How easy is it to see God's hand in it, and not only your own work?
