2 Samuel 7: The LORD will make you a house

Read 2 Samuel 7:1-29 before you meet.

In a few lines

David spoke of the house he lived in and the curtains God's ark was in; the LORD answered that he would make David a house. One Hebrew word, bayit, carries David's house of cedar, the house for the LORD's name and the house the LORD will make for David, 15 times in this one chapter, more than in any other chapter of 1 or 2 Samuel.

The verse to carry

“Then David the king went in and sat before the LORD; and he said, “Who am I, Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me this far?”

2 Samuel 7:18

To talk about

  1. 1. David was settled in his house, at rest from his enemies, when he spoke of God's ark in curtains (7:1-2). When your life is finally settled, where does your heart turn?

  2. 2. The LORD reminded David, "I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep" (7:8). Where were you when God found you, and what does it do to you to remember it?

  3. 3. David asked, "Who am I, Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me this far?" (7:18). Looking back, how far has God brought you, and what would you say to him about it?
