2 Samuel 2: Shall the sword devour forever?
Read 2 Samuel 2:1-32 before you meet.
In a few lines
One small Hebrew word runs through this chapter: achar, after, used 15 times, more than in any other chapter of 1 or 2 Samuel. The house of Judah was after David (2:10), Asahel would not turn from after Abner (2:19-22), and Abner asked how long before the people turned from after their brothers (2:26).
The verse to carry
“Now may the LORD show loving kindness and truth to you. I also will reward you for this kindness, because you have done this thing.”
2 Samuel 2:6
To talk about
1. Saul was dead and the way looked open, but David first asked the LORD, "Shall I go up?" (2:1). What decision in front of you right now do you want to bring to God before you move?
2. David blessed the men of Jabesh Gilead for their kindness to Saul, the man who had hunted him (2:5-6). Whose good deeds are hard for you to honor because of whom they were done for?
3. Abner asked, "How long will it be then, before you ask the people to return from following their brothers?" (2:26). Where in your life is a quarrel still running that someone needs to call to a halt?
