2 Samuel 15: The king goes up weeping
Read 2 Samuel 15:1-37 before you meet.
In a few lines
"Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel" (15:6) uses the Hebrew words Genesis uses when Jacob deceived Laban (Genesis 31:20), and when David prays against Ahithophel's counsel (15:31), the very next verse has Hushai walking up to meet him (15:32).
The verse to carry
“The king said to Zadok, “Carry God’s ark back into the city. If I find favor in the LORD’s eyes, he will bring me again, and show me both it and his habitation; but if he says, ‘I have no delight in you,’ behold, here I am. Let him do to me as seems good to him.””
2 Samuel 15:25-26
To talk about
1. Absalom told every man, "your matters are good and right; but there is no man deputized by the king to hear you" (15:3). Why are words like that so easy to believe, and how can you tell someone who wants your good from someone who wants your heart?
2. David said, "behold, here I am. Let him do to me as seems good to him" (15:26). What are you facing where saying that honestly to God would be hard, and what would it change?
3. Ittai had come "but yesterday" (15:20), and still said, "whether for death or for life, your servant will be there also" (15:21). Who has stood with you when it cost them, and who could you stand with now?
