2 Samuel 12: You are the man!
Read 2 Samuel 12:1-31 before you meet.
In a few lines
In Hebrew, the word for man, ish, comes six times in 12:1-5, through Nathan's story and David's angry answer. David gives the verdict on the man himself, "the man who has done this deserves to die!" (12:5), before Nathan says, in two Hebrew words, "You are the man!" (12:7).
The verse to carry
“David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” Nathan said to David, “The LORD also has put away your sin. You will not die.”
2 Samuel 12:13
To talk about
1. Nathan helped David see what he had done by telling him a story first (12:1-7). When has someone helped you see something in yourself that you couldn't see head-on?
2. David answered in two Hebrew words, "I have sinned against the LORD" (12:13), with no excuse added. What would it look like for you to say something that plainly, to God or to someone you've wronged?
3. When the child died, David rose, washed, went into the LORD's house and worshiped (12:20). What has helped you keep turning to God after a loss, or after a prayer that wasn't answered as you asked?
