2 Kings 3: An easy thing in the LORD's sight

Read 2 Kings 3:1-27 before you meet.

In a few lines

Jehoshaphat gave Ahab's son the answer he gave Ahab (1 Kings 22:4) and asked again for a prophet of the LORD; Elisha swore Elijah's own oath (1 Kings 18:15). The valley filled with no wind or rain seen: "an easy thing in the LORD’s sight" (3:18). And whose "great wrath" came in 3:27, the text doesn't say.

The verse to carry

“For the LORD says, ‘You will not see wind, neither will you see rain, yet that valley will be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your other animals.”

2 Kings 3:17

To talk about

  1. 1. The kings marched seven days and had no water before Jehoshaphat asked for "a prophet of the LORD" (3:9-11). What usually has to happen before you stop and ask God what he says?

  2. 2. The kings were told to make the valley full of trenches while they would see neither wind nor rain (3:16-17). When has doing what God said felt like digging in a dry place?

  3. 3. "This is an easy thing in the LORD’s sight" (3:18). What feels impossible to you right now, and what would it look like to bring it to God this week?
