2 Kings 22: Your heart was tender

Read 2 Kings 22:1-20 before you meet.

In a few lines

Hilkiah the high priest found the book; the king heard it read, and tore his clothes. The LORD's word through Huldah didn't call off the evil coming on the place. It answered one man: "because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the LORD" (22:19), "I also have heard you" (22:19).

The verse to carry

“because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you,’ says the LORD.”

2 Kings 22:19

To talk about

  1. 1. Josiah tore his clothes when he heard the words of the book read (22:11). Has something you read or heard in the Bible ever stopped you like that? What was it?

  2. 2. When the king heard the words of the book, he sent men to "inquire of the LORD" (22:13). What helps you take something hard straight to God instead of avoiding it?

  3. 3. "Because your heart was tender" (22:19). What would a tender heart toward God look like in an ordinary week of yours?
