2 Kings 21: The line of Samaria
Read 2 Kings 21:1-26 before you meet.
In a few lines
Manasseh set an engraved image in the very house of which the LORD had said, "I will put my name forever" (21:7), and the LORD answered by his servants the prophets: he would stretch over Jerusalem "the line of Samaria" (21:13). Yet the chapter closes with Josiah on the throne (21:26), the king a man of God had named at Bethel in Jeroboam's day (1 Kings 13:2).
The verse to carry
“I will not cause the feet of Israel to wander any more out of the land which I gave their fathers, if only they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.”
2 Kings 21:8
To talk about
1. Manasseh "built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed" (21:3). What good has been handed down to you that could be undone in one generation, and what would it take to guard it?
2. The promise came with "if only they will observe to do" (21:8), and the next words are "But they didn’t listen" (21:9). Where do you find it hardest to listen to what God has already said?
3. Matthew's list of Jesus' ancestors names Manasseh and Amon (Matthew 1:10). What does it say to you that the line leading to Jesus runs through kings like these?
