2 Kings 19: Spread it before the LORD

Read 2 Kings 19:1-37 before you meet.

In a few lines

Sennacherib's words were sent "to defy the living God" (19:16), with the verb David used of Goliath (1 Samuel 17:26). Hezekiah took the letter into the LORD's house and "spread it before the LORD" (19:14) and asked to be saved "that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, LORD, are God alone" (19:19).

The verse to carry

“Now therefore, LORD our God, save us, I beg you, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, LORD, are God alone.”

2 Kings 19:19

To talk about

  1. 1. Hezekiah took the letter and "spread it before the LORD" (19:14). What is frightening you right now, and what would it look like to lay it out before God, as it is?

  2. 2. Hezekiah asked to be saved "that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, LORD, are God alone" (19:19). When you pray about your own trouble, how much of your prayer is about God being known, and what would change if more of it were?

  3. 3. "Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard" (19:6). What words have you heard lately, from people or in your own head, that make you afraid, and what has God said that answers them?
