2 Kings 13: The arrow of victory

Read 2 Kings 13:1-25 before you meet.

In a few lines

In the chapter where Elisha dies, a dead man thrown into his tomb stands up (13:21), and the LORD, whose people "didn’t depart" from Jeroboam's sins (13:6), still would not cast them off, "because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob" (13:23).

The verse to carry

“But the LORD was gracious to them, and had compassion on them, and favored them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them and he didn’t cast them from his presence as yet.”

2 Kings 13:23

To talk about

  1. 1. The LORD listened to Jehoahaz (13:4), a king who "did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight" (13:2). What keeps you from asking God for help when you know you haven't been at your best?

  2. 2. The king "struck three times, and stopped" (13:18), and it cost him (13:19). Where in your life are you tempted to stop short of what you've been given to do?

  3. 3. The LORD was gracious to Israel "because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob" (13:23), not because of anything these kings had done. How does it change the way you come to God to know that his kindness can rest on his own promise?
