2 Chronicles 7: If my people
Read 2 Chronicles 7:1-22 before you meet.
In a few lines
The two things 7:14 asks first and last, to humble themselves and to turn, come back in the verdict on Judah's last king: Zedekiah "didn’t humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet" (36:12) and "hardened his heart against turning to the LORD" (36:13), the same two Hebrew verbs. And the fire of 7:1 is told only in 2 Chronicles.
The verse to carry
“if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14
To talk about
1. The LORD names four things: humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways (7:14). Which of the four comes hardest for you right now, and what would one step toward it look like this week?
2. When the fire fell, the people bowed and said, "For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever!" (7:3). When did you last see something that made you say God is good? Tell the group what it was.
3. In Hebrew, "turn from their wicked ways" (7:14) and "if you turn away" (7:19) use the same verb. What pulls you to turn away from God, and what has helped you turn back?
