2 Chronicles 6: Hands toward heaven
Read 2 Chronicles 6:1-42 before you meet.
In a few lines
Solomon's bronze platform (6:13) is, in Hebrew, the word for the bronze basins of 4:6, and only Chronicles tells that he knelt on it. And only Chronicles ends the prayer with David: "Remember your loving kindnesses to David your servant" (6:42), two Hebrew words, chasdei David, found side by side in just one other verse of the Hebrew Bible, Isaiah 55:3.
The verse to carry
“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house which I have built!”
2 Chronicles 6:18
To talk about
1. Solomon knelt to pray "before all the assembly of Israel" (6:13). What makes praying out loud with other people hard for you, and what has made it easier?
2. Solomon's prayer expects people to fail, "for there is no man who doesn’t sin" (6:36), and still asks God to hear them when they turn back (6:37-39). What keeps people from coming back to God after they've failed, and what helps?
3. Solomon prayed for the foreigner who comes "from a far country" (6:32). Who do you know who feels far from God's people, and how could your group make room for them?
