2 Chronicles 5: One sound, and the cloud

Read 2 Chronicles 5:1-14 before you meet.

In a few lines

Only 2 Chronicles tells what came just before the cloud: priests who didn't keep their divisions, and Levite singers with priests sounding trumpets, all "as one, to make one sound" (5:13), singing "For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever!" (5:13). Then "the house was filled with a cloud" (5:13).

The verse to carry

“when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, “For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever!” then the house was filled with a cloud, even the LORD’s house,”

2 Chronicles 5:13

To talk about

  1. 1. The singers and trumpeters were "as one, to make one sound" (5:13). When have you been part of something done together, as one? What made it one?

  2. 2. They sang, "For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever!" (5:13), a line already in 1 Chronicles 16. What words about God do you come back to again and again, and why those?

  3. 3. The work was finished (5:1), and the singers praised the LORD, "For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever!" (5:13). When have you finished something and stopped to give thanks?
