2 Chronicles 34: While he was yet young

Read 2 Chronicles 34:1-33 before you meet.

In a few lines

In 2 Chronicles, Josiah began to seek God "while he was yet young" (34:3), in the eighth year of his reign, and to purge the land in the twelfth, before the book was found in the eighteenth (34:8, 34:14). When he heard it, the LORD's word was, "your heart was tender" (34:27), "I also have heard you" (34:27).

The verse to carry

“For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, the Asherah poles, the engraved images, and the molten images.”

To talk about

  1. 1. Josiah began to seek God "while he was yet young" (34:3), before the book was ever found. What first set you seeking God? What does seeking him look like for you now?

  2. 2. When the king heard the words of the law he tore his clothes (34:19), and the LORD said, "your heart was tender" (34:27). What helps keep your heart tender toward what God says, and what tends to harden it?

  3. 3. The king read the book "in their hearing" to everyone, great and small (34:30). Who first read or opened the Bible with you? Who could you read it with this week?
