2 Chronicles 33: He humbled himself greatly
Read 2 Chronicles 33:1-25 before you meet.
In a few lines
2 Kings says Judah was removed "for the sins of Manasseh" (2 Kings 24:3). 2 Chronicles tells what Kings doesn't: carried in chains to Babylon (33:11), he "humbled himself greatly" (33:12), and the LORD "brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom" (33:13).
The verse to carry
“When he was in distress, he begged the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. He prayed to him; and he was entreated by him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God.”
2 Chronicles 33:12-13
To talk about
1. Manasseh humbled himself "when he was in distress" (33:12). Why do you think hard times so often turn people back to God, and has that been true for you?
2. Manasseh took away the idols, yet "the people still sacrificed in the high places" (33:17). Have you seen something you once started keep going in others after you turned from it? What did you do?
3. Amon "didn’t humble himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself" (33:23). What have you learned from how someone older than you turned back to God, or didn't?
