2 Chronicles 28: Send back the captives

Read 2 Chronicles 28:1-27 before you meet.

In a few lines

Only 2 Chronicles tells that a prophet named Oded met Israel's army bringing Judah's captives to Samaria and asked, "Aren’t there even with you trespasses of your own against the LORD your God?" (28:10), and that named men clothed and fed the captives and brought them to Jericho (28:15). Ahaz sought help from Assyria and the gods of Damascus, and they "were the ruin of him" (28:23).

The verse to carry

“Now you intend to degrade the children of Judah and Jerusalem as male and female slaves for yourselves. Aren’t there even with you trespasses of your own against the LORD your God?”

2 Chronicles 28:10

To talk about

  1. 1. Oded asked the winning army, "Aren’t there even with you trespasses of your own against the LORD your God?" (28:10). When someone else is clearly in the wrong, what helps you see your own wrong too?

  2. 2. The men named in 28:12 clothed and fed the captives, gave them sandals and carried the feeble on donkeys (28:15). Who near you needs that kind of practical care, and what could you do for them this week?

  3. 3. Ahaz looked for help to the kings of Assyria and to the gods of Damascus, and the chapter says it didn't help him (28:20-23). Where are you tempted to look for help first? What would it look like to turn to God first?
