2 Chronicles 23: The king's son must reign

Read 2 Chronicles 23:1-21 before you meet.

In a few lines

Jehoiada says to the assembly, "Behold, the king’s son must reign, as the LORD has spoken concerning the sons of David" (23:3), eight verses before the king's son is brought out (23:11). And where 2 Kings has the Carites and the guard around the king, 2 Chronicles has the Levites (23:7).

The verse to carry

“Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, all the people, and the king, that they should be the LORD’s people.”

2 Chronicles 23:16

To talk about

  1. 1. "Jehoiada strengthened himself" (23:1) before he acted, after six hidden years. What helps you find courage to do what is right when it will cost you something?

  2. 2. The covenant was "that they should be the LORD’s people" (23:16), and next the people broke down the house of Baal (23:17). What competes with God for first place in your life right now?

  3. 3. The chapter ends "with rejoicing and with singing" (23:18), and "the city was quiet" (23:21). Where do you most need God's quiet this week, and how could your group help?
