2 Chronicles 16: The LORD's eyes run back and forth

Read 2 Chronicles 16:1-14 before you meet.

In a few lines

"The LORD’s eyes run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him" (16:9) was spoken as a rebuke, to a king who had relied on Syria and not on the LORD. And the seer who said it was put in the prison for it (16:10).

The verse to carry

“For the LORD’s eyes run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. You have done foolishly in this; for from now on you will have wars.”

2 Chronicles 16:9

To talk about

  1. 1. Asa cried to the LORD against Zerah's huge army (14:11), but against Baasha he sent silver to Syria (16:2-3). Why might it be harder to lean on God when another way out seems to be at hand? Where do you see that in yourself?

  2. 2. "The LORD’s eyes run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him" (16:9). What would change this week if you took that as true for you?

  3. 3. Asa met Hanani's hard word with anger and a prison (16:10). When someone tells you something true that you don't want to hear, what helps you listen instead of pushing it away?
