2 Chronicles 11: Set their hearts to seek

Read 2 Chronicles 11:1-23 before you meet.

In a few lines

2 Chronicles tells what 1 Kings doesn't: when Jeroboam cast off the Levites, they "left their pasture lands and their possessions" for Judah (11:14), and after them came people "out of all the tribes of Israel" who set their hearts to seek the LORD (11:16). The kingdom had split in two, but seeking the LORD still brought people from every tribe to Jerusalem.

The verse to carry

“After them, out of all the tribes of Israel, those who set their hearts to seek the LORD, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.”

2 Chronicles 11:16

To talk about

  1. 1. The LORD said, "You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers!" (11:4), and they went home. Is there a fight you feel entitled to that God may be asking you to let go of?

  2. 2. The Levites "left their pasture lands and their possessions" (11:14) when they were cast off from serving the LORD. What has following God cost you, or what might it cost you?

  3. 3. People from all the tribes "set their hearts to seek the LORD" (11:16). What would setting your heart to seek him look like on an ordinary day this week?
