1 Timothy 4: Toward godliness

Read 1 Timothy 4:1-16 before you meet.

In a few lines

1 Timothy 4:8 doesn't call bodily exercise worthless: it "has some value", and godliness "has value in all things". Behind value both times is one Greek adjective.

The verse to carry

“For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now and of that which is to come.”

1 Timothy 4:8

To talk about

  1. 1. "nourished in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine which you have followed" (4:6). What has nourished your faith lately?

  2. 2. "For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things" (4:8). What has training for something over time taught you?

  3. 3. "be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity" (4:12). Who has been an example to you in one of these, and what did you learn from them?
