1 Thessalonians 5: Always rejoice
Read 1 Thessalonians 5:1-28 before you meet.
In a few lines
1 Thessalonians ends with grace: "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you." (5:28). And near its end it asks its readers to do what it says we did. In 2:11, "we exhorted, comforted"; now they are to "exhort one another" (5:11) and "encourage the faint-hearted" (5:14), with the same two Greek verbs.
The verse to carry
“Always rejoice. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
To talk about
1. "Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do." (5:11). What is one way the people you study with could build each other up this week?
2. "Admonish the disorderly; encourage the faint-hearted; support the weak; be patient toward all." (5:14). Which of these comes hardest to you, and why?
3. "Always rejoice. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks" (5:16-18). Which of these three comes most easily to you, and which least?
