1 Thessalonians 2: Our glory and our joy

Read 1 Thessalonians 2:1-20 before you meet.

In a few lines

Every glory in 1 Thessalonians is in chapter 2, one Greek noun three times: not sought "from men" (2:6), God's "own Kingdom and glory" (2:12), and then the readers themselves: "For you are our glory and our joy." (2:20).

The verse to carry

“For this cause we also thank God without ceasing that when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, God’s word, which also works in you who believe.”

1 Thessalonians 2:13

To talk about

  1. 1. "not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts" (2:4). Where do you feel the pull to please people, and what helps you?

  2. 2. "we were well pleased to impart to you not the Good News of God only, but also our own souls, because you had become very dear to us" (2:8). Who has shared their life with you along with the Good News?

  3. 3. "God’s word, which also works in you who believe" (2:13). Where have you seen God's word at work in someone you know?
