1 Samuel 29: Good in my sight
Read 1 Samuel 29:1-11 before you meet.
In a few lines
Achish swears by the LORD that David has been upright and that he has found no evil in him (29:6), and David asks, "But what have I done?" (29:8), in the same Hebrew words he used to Eliab, Jonathan and Saul (17:29, 20:1, 26:18). Good in Achish's eyes, not good in the lords', David is sent home before the battle (29:6-11).
The verse to carry
“Achish answered David, “I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God. Notwithstanding, the princes of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’”
1 Samuel 29:9
To talk about
1. Achish said he had found no fault in David, and still sent him back because the lords didn't favor him (29:6-7). When have you been turned away because of what others thought rather than anything you had done, and what did you do with it?
2. David was marching with Achish's army, and the princes' words sent him home before the battle (29:2, 29:9-11). Has a door ever closed on you that you were later glad of? What did you learn from it?
3. David asked Eliab, Jonathan, Saul and Achish what he had done (17:29, 20:1, 26:18, 29:8). When you feel treated unfairly, where do you take that question?
