1 Samuel 28: The LORD didn't answer
Read 1 Samuel 28:1-25 before you meet.
In a few lines
Saul had sent those with familiar spirits out of the land himself (28:3), and when the LORD didn't answer him (28:6) he went to one by night. What he heard about the kingdom was nothing new: "The LORD has done to you as he spoke by me" (28:17). The kingdom was torn from him and given to his neighbor, as in 15:28, and now the neighbor is named: David.
The verse to carry
“When Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD didn’t answer him by dreams, by Urim, or by prophets.”
1 Samuel 28:6
To talk about
1. The LORD didn't answer Saul (28:6), and Saul went looking for another voice (28:7). When God seems silent, where are you tempted to look for answers?
2. What Saul heard about the kingdom was what the LORD had already said to him (28:17; 15:28). Is there something God has already made plain to you that you keep hoping to hear differently?
3. The woman at Endor saw a terrified king who had eaten nothing all day and set a meal before him (28:20-25). Who has cared for you like that at a low moment, and who might need it from you this week?
