1 Samuel 25: As his name is, so is he
Read 1 Samuel 25:1-44 before you meet.
In a few lines
David set out to avenge himself on Nabal, and Abigail met him first. In Hebrew David's "avenging myself with my own hand" (25:33) is the verb save, with "my hand" and "for me". He blessed her for keeping him from it, and it was the LORD who "struck Nabal, so that he died" (25:38).
The verse to carry
“Blessed is your discretion, and blessed are you, who have kept me today from blood guiltiness, and from avenging myself with my own hand.”
1 Samuel 25:33
To talk about
1. Nabal's young man went to Abigail because Nabal was "such a worthless fellow that one can’t speak to him" (25:17). Who can speak to you when you're about to get something wrong, and do you let them?
2. David was ready to pay Nabal back: "He has returned me evil for good" (25:21). What helps you stop when you want to get even with someone?
3. Abigail stepped between David and what he was about to do, and said, "On me, my lord, on me be the blame!" (25:24). When has someone stepped in to make peace for you, or when have you done it for someone else?
