1 Samuel 24: The skirt of his robe
Read 1 Samuel 24:1-22 before you meet.
In a few lines
David had Saul in his hand and cut off only the skirt of his robe, and even that struck his heart (24:4-5). He twice said "my hand will not be on you" (24:12-13), close to the words Saul had once said about David (18:17), and left the judging to the LORD. Then Saul said it himself: "I know that you will surely be king" (24:20).
The verse to carry
“May the LORD judge between me and you, and may the LORD avenge me of you; but my hand will not be on you.”
1 Samuel 24:12
To talk about
1. David cut off a piece of cloth that no one saw him take, and "David’s heart struck him" (24:5). When has your conscience stopped you over something small, before it became something bigger?
2. "May the LORD judge between me and you… but my hand will not be on you" (24:12). Is there something you're tempted to settle with your own hand that you could leave with God this week?
3. David didn't just stay hidden; he went out, bowed, and told Saul plainly what had happened (24:8-11). Is there someone you need to speak to honestly and with respect, instead of avoiding them?
