1 Samuel 2: Those who honor me
Read 1 Samuel 2:1-36 before you meet.
In a few lines
Hannah prays for the LORD's "anointed" (2:10), mashiach, before Israel has a king. Eli's sons, priests who "didn’t know the LORD" (2:12), are called by the very word Hannah said did not fit her (1:16), while the boy Samuel "grew on" (2:26) and the LORD promises "a faithful priest" (2:35).
The verse to carry
“There is no one as holy as the LORD, for there is no one besides you, nor is there any rock like our God.”
1 Samuel 2:2
To talk about
1. Hannah prayed, "He brings low, he also lifts up" (2:7). When have you seen God lift someone up from a low place, maybe you? What did it show you about him?
2. The LORD asked Eli why he would "honor your sons above me" (2:29). What things, even good ones, can quietly take first place over God in a life? How would you notice it happening?
3. Samuel "grew on, and increased in favor both with the LORD and also with men" (2:26) in the same place where Eli's sons went the other way. What helps someone keep growing when the people around them aren't?
