1 Kings 7: Two pillars and a sea
Read 1 Kings 7:1-51 before you meet.
In a few lines
Hiram the bronze-worker is described in Bezalel's words: "filled with wisdom and understanding and skill" (7:14) is, in Hebrew, the verb and three nouns of Exodus 31:3, without "the Spirit of God". And the right-hand pillar's name, Jachin, is given by Strong's as "he (or it) will establish".
The verse to carry
“He set up the pillars at the porch of the temple. He set up the right pillar and called its name Jachin; and he set up the left pillar and called its name Boaz.”
1 Kings 7:21
To talk about
1. Hiram "was filled with wisdom and understanding and skill to work all works in bronze", and "performed all his work" (7:14). What skill do you have, and where could it serve God's people?
2. Hiram made "four hundred pomegranates" for the networks (7:42) and put "lily work" on the tops of the pillars (7:22). Where are you tempted to do small work carelessly, and what would doing it well look like this week?
3. Solomon "brought in the things which David his father had dedicated" (7:51). What has someone before you set aside for God that you now get to carry on?
