1 Kings 20: You yourself have decided it
Read 1 Kings 20:1-43 before you meet.
In a few lines
The prophet's story made Ahab give his own sentence: "You yourself have decided it" (20:40). And the verdict turned on a word the LORD had used twice, "into your hand" (20:13, 20:28): Ahab let go "out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction" (20:42).
The verse to carry
“A man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, “The LORD says, ‘Because the Syrians have said, “The LORD is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys,” therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the LORD.’””
1 Kings 20:28
To talk about
1. Ahab said, "Don’t let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off" (20:11). Where are you tempted to count something as done before it's finished?
2. The king judged the man in the prophet's story at once (20:40), and then learned the story was about him (20:41-42). Why is it easier to see what's wrong in someone else's story than in our own?
3. The Syrians said, "The LORD is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys" (20:28). Where in your life are you tempted to think God is there in some places but not in others?
