1 Kings 19: A still small voice
Read 1 Kings 19:1-21 before you meet.
In a few lines
Elijah said, "It is enough" (19:4); in Hebrew the angel answered with the same word: "the journey is too great for you" (19:7). And when Elijah said, "I, even I only, am left" (19:10), the LORD had kept seven thousand (19:18). Paul says, "Even so too at this present time also there is a remnant" (Romans 11:5).
The verse to carry
“After the earthquake a fire passed; but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire, there was a still small voice.”
1 Kings 19:12
To talk about
1. Before anything was asked of him, Elijah slept, an angel touched him and told him to eat, and there was a cake and a jar of water at his head; then the angel came a second time (19:5-7). What does caring for your body have to do with following God when you are worn out?
2. Elijah said, "I, even I only, am left" (19:10), but the LORD had kept seven thousand (19:18). When have you felt alone in following God, and who might be standing with you that you haven't seen?
3. Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and in the end "went after Elijah, and served him" (19:20-21). What might following God's call ask you to leave, and what might it ask you to give away?
