1 Kings 14: Known at the door
Read 1 Kings 14:1-31 before you meet.
In a few lines
Jeroboam's wife came to Ahijah in disguise, but the LORD had told the prophet who could not see who was coming (14:5). And in a word of judgment on the whole house of Jeroboam, "some good thing toward the LORD" was found in one child (14:13), the only one of that house who "will come to the grave" (14:13), mourned by all Israel (14:18).
The verse to carry
“and tore the kingdom away from David’s house, and gave it to you; and yet you have not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in my eyes,”
1 Kings 14:8
To talk about
1. Jeroboam sent his wife to the LORD's prophet in disguise (14:2), and the LORD knew who was coming before she reached the door (14:5). Where are you tempted to come to God as someone other than who you are?
2. In a house the chapter judges hard, "some good thing toward the LORD" was found in one child (14:13). Who might you be tempted to write off because of the family or the place they come from?
3. The gold shields were gone, and Rehoboam had bronze ones made and carried in the same way (14:26-28). Where might you be keeping something looking the same after what was real has been lost?
