1 John 2: The world is passing away
Read 1 John 2:1-29 before you meet.
In a few lines
1 John 2 says twice that something is passing away: "the darkness is passing away" (2:8), and "The world is passing away with its lusts" (2:17). In the same verse, beside the world passing away, it says, "he who does God’s will remains forever" (2:17).
The verse to carry
“The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.”
1 John 2:17
To talk about
1. "the darkness is passing away and the true light already shines" (2:8). What do these words bring to mind for you?
2. "The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever." (2:17). The verse sets two things side by side. What difference does it make to you to read them together?
3. "let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning" (2:24). What helps you hold on to what you have heard, week after week?
